Kaya ‘Kultural Fusion’ Village
Hello everyone my name is Kaya Bear and I will be having fun with you all at Kaya Festival 2013!
We have some amazing workshops for children and parents of all ages, we also have a Kids Cinema and our very first Kaya Mini Disco!
For the babies we have the Baby Chamber and The Baby Chamber play zone where the babies can play and relax with their parents! So check the list of workshops below and find which ones interest you.
There will be a Kaya Bear programme which will tell you when the activities are taking place. Until then take care and see you on May 24th 25th 26th!
Creative Recycling
Mole and his friends (Buckethead, Snail, Bobby) have got together and created a garden from rubbish they have found in the environment and used wood from a sustainable managed woodland to create structures. Plastic bottles collected from a section of bank (200m) of the River Ogwen over a year create the River flowers. What better use of old scratched vinyl that can’t be played any more than to transform them into an array of flowers – a difficult decision for a vinyl junkie! Creative Recycling turns waste into art!
Jimmy Juggle
This year Kaya is looking forward to bringing Jimmy Juggle and his team to entertain the kids (and adults!) with their colourful stilt walkabout characters, interactive performances, fire shows and circus workshops that will include club, ball, scarf and ring juggling, diablo, devil sticking, plate spinning, stilt walking, uni-cycling, rola bola, poi twirling, staff spinning, object balance, skipping and hula hooping. Keep those kids busy!
‘Wild Things’ Kids Workshops

Go exploring in the woods and find small beautiful things – pine needles, lichen,
leaves, seeds and petals. Using clay as a base on the trees make your own original creation inspired by nature. Make a woodland crown – especially suitable for small children – stick beautiful things you find onto your crown – perfect to wear for a fairies tea party!
Make a clay model of a creature that lives in the woods (or a fabulous beast of your imagining) – using found objects for wings, eyes etc. Make a home or a nest for your creature. If you want to scale up you can help create a shelter big enough for people – out of natural materials.
Wild Things kids workshops bring the magic of Kaya alive for children!
Steel Pan Workshops
Come and sample the wonderous sounds of the Steel Pan – with a fantastic steel pan workshop to put you in the Caribbean mood! Steelpans are a great way to teach people of all ages about the only new instrument to be invented in the last century which originates from the twin islands of Trinidad & Tobago! Come and learn to play for a day on Skaya Dub Sunday.

Physics in the Kaya Field
A brilliant fun filled activity which involves taking ‘physics tricks’ to public events. Physics tricks are hands-on experiments and eye-catching demonstrations using things that you can find at home – for example, sticking a kebab stick through a balloon without it popping, or holding a cup of water upside-down over someone’s head and them not getting wet. Come and get stuck in!
Hopper House
An arts and crafts area for children to paint, draw, get mucky whilst the parents chill out!
Face Painting and Fancy Dress
Fancy dress and face painting at Kaya with this years theme – Animal Magic!
Kaya Mini Disco
Come and dance to your favourite pop songs at the Kaya Mini disco!! for the youngsters who love to boogie!! 5-12 yr olds
Taiko Drums workshops
Taiko drumming is loud, fun and energetic and great for festivals! The workshops are aimed at people of all ages and abilities and will involve a short introduction to the drums and their history and cultural background followed by a physical warm up and explanation of technique, posture and how to hold the sticks. Participants will learn traditional Japanese Taiko drumming techniques and simple rhythms with a view to learning a short piece by the end of the session.
